We stayed on site 194, it is of decent size and butts up to the woods. There are quite a few walking trails that provide beautiful scenery and lots of ticks, but lack in signs. The office offers souvenirs to buy, such as magnets and Michigan made coffees. There's a disc golf course, beach, and a pavilion; beautiful lake. There's a few boat launches to easily drop in your boat or kayak. We didn't check out the facilities, but showers are available and they looked nice sized.
We camped here this past week and it was a very good experience. Sites are larger and in our loop it was very quiet. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Camp host was great, thanks Steve. :-) The day use is a a gaunt by car as its on other side of the lake but the campground had it's own beach and swimming area. If you like to ORV, this is the place to stay. Our only two issues and they were minor was not much for a bike to use except the campground loops. Not like Aloha up the road on the rail/trail. Second was lack of a store. We like to get stickers for our camper and t shirts and neither here. They did have coffee mugs and magnets for sale at check in station. Oh, I forgot, the cell service is amazing! 5G the entire time so if you wanted to stream a movie you could. So if you like quiet camp with big sites, out in the middle of nowhere then this is the place for you.
Wonderful campground. The ground maintenance is the best I’ve seen at a state park and we’ve stayed at over half of the state parks in Michigan.
Someone is always picking up garbage, cleaning the bathrooms, or other odd jobs.
The water is absolutely beautiful.
The sites are spacious; they have a lot of pull-thrus which is nice.
I do wish they labeled the hiking trails better but it’s still nice hiking.
Absolutely love this camp ground. Lots of sites with plenty of space. Love that they have dump station as well as recycling for cans which goes back into the campground. This camp is located at a trail head. Lots of orv, atv traffic. Tons of trails all around. The bathrooms and showers were amazing. They clean them daily. Showers had lots of pressure and were warm. We stayed from Wednesday to Sunday. This was our first time here and will definitely be coming back. Oh and the lake was clear and refreshing. Was able to find some cool stones here and fossil.
The lake 🏊🏼♀️appeared to be a serene blue. The sand was clean and the water was warm. It was very peaceful. We stayed at the campground which has its own private lake🏖that was small and busy. We went over to the day use area and near the disc golf area we found a quiet private spot to relax in the water.
During our stay at the campground quiet time was pleasant. The tent worms were prevalent but that is at every campground. One side of the campground was a little less busy than the other side but it is still a 5 ✨campground. If you LOVE kayaking 🚣🏼♀️this is the place for you!
Nice campground. The beach is nice and sandy. The lake does drop off quite fast but has plenty of shallow water for kids to play in. There are two volleyball courts by the beach. It has some pull though sites available and the fire pits are quite nice. The bathrooms are clean and so are the showers. There are plenty of trails for biking or for an ORV. There is a disc golf course available on the day use side of the lake. It was a 10 minute bike ride if you took the trails. The Ranger Station has disk rentals available along with other rentables. There is an upper and lower area of the campground. The dump station already has sewer hoses attached which is nice so you don't have to dig yours out from your camper.
A great place to camp. The water is very clear, I could see the bottom at 30 ft. Sites are a bit close but nothing that is a huge difference from most state parks. It is kinda "out there" from any kind of town. Good beach with canoe/kayak rental available at the front gate.
We are from out of state. We did not know we would have to buy a "recreation pass?" at $39. That is not much of an incentive for out of state campers to visit state parks in Michigan. Just stayed at another state park south of here. They never mentioned a pass, nor did they at the state forest campground. Site is a little tight, but understandable due to the age of the park. Bathrooms are clean. Won't being staying in a state park again.
